Mangomextours invite you to join us on a unique journey to the heart of this region of Chiapas - rich in wildlife, culture, history and natural beauty. A tour designed to meet the requirements of ecotourism, encouraging local communities to protect and cherish their own environment and at the same time allow these same communities to benefit economically from visitors, Mexican and foreign alike.
The precise order may vary from the tour as outlined below. Mangomextours will also guarantee to include additional visits and experiences not mentioned here - with the aim of broadening cultural understanding of the region and enjoyment for our visitors.
Day One :
Comitan de Dominguez
An introduction to the tour - including a walking tour of the colonial town of Comitan de Dominguez.
The evening you are free to explore the town.
Day Two :
Comitan de Dominguez
Day trip to include a barbecue in the countryside, an opportunity to explore the rich variety of butterflies and birdlife in the region and even to visit a site of historical interest.
For the second evening you will be free to explore the relaxed ambience of the colonial town of Comitan - and perhaps to visit the artesan market, bars and restaurants and even catch a live marimba band in the central square.
Day Three :
Las Nubes
In the morning you will have the chance to wander through the ruined Mayan pyramids at Tenam Puente and allow your imagination to picture the Mayan ball-court, packed with spectators and athletes playing the ritualised game, so crucial to Mayan society.
In the afternoon you will arrive at Las Nubes on the edge of the tropical rainforest, where you will be offered a guided tour of the fauna and flora of the area.
In the evening you will be left to enjoy the tranquility of Las Nubes in the comfort of your rustic cabin on the shores of the river, with the sound of the waterfalls close by and the chorus sounds of the jungle for company.
Day Four :
Tziscao, Los Lagos de Montebello
In the morning you will visit several lakes surrounded by pine forests, which form the more than 50 separate lakes of the national park known as 'Los Lagos de Montebello'.
In the afternoon you will arrive at Tziscao, a small village on the shores of the largest of the lakes in this border region with Guatemala. You might get the opportunity of cycling around the shores of the lake and experiencing the rich array of birdlife in Los Lagos de Montebello.
You will be staying in wooden alpine-style chalet accommodation on the shores of lake Tziscao itself.
Day Five :
Chiflon
In the morning you will be given a guided tour of another impressive and only partially excavated Mayan site, Chinkultic. You will learn more of the relationship between Mayan architecture and their belief system and understanding of the Cosmos.
Later in the afternoon you will arrive at Chiflon and marvel at the series of impressive waterfalls, each one outperforming it's predecessor as you climb higher along the valley path, in this butterfly-lovers paradise, vying for your attention with the sight of the gushing flowing river cascading down the valley.
You will be staying in either two-berth chalet accommodation or larger villa-style chalets built in the lower valley close to the flowing river and pathway leading up to the waterfalls themselves.
Day Six :
Onward Journey
In the morning you will have the enviable opportunity to meander along the path towards the falls yourself with only the various-sized lizards, colourful birds and elegant splendour of the butterflies for company.
You will then be driven back to Comitan de Dominguez by early afternoon and left to continue with your own independent travel journeys - richer in understanding of Chiapas' history, wildlife and culture, and appreciative of the natural beauty of this beautiful and varied state of Mexico.
BUEN VIAJE!
